you'll never see the dawn again

footsteps lead up to the door at which he waited at, listening. he had no intention of acting on impulse, and opening the door to hear and see sights and sounds he never intended on imposing on.

but, then again, he had to look inside himself. what he wanted to know was more important than his impression on the world. his curiosities intruiged him to take the daring step into the next room, the creak of the door and the handle smoothly turning in his hand would open up a new future for him and his wishes to be a leader and his own director.

but he couldn't do it. footsteps stopped beside him on the other side of the door. both him and the mystery on the other side sighed a sound of relief, as neither knew what was beyond the locked door, but both had a key.

___

arthur was an original. but faintly, he was just the opposite, and that faint streak, undetectable piece of him was most detectable of all by his love interest, who frankly and quite obviously, was not interested in him at all.

he dared to dream of the possibility that the two would even link eyes for a blink, he dared to think of what could become, but backed down at the thought with a blush and a sigh. his feelings were meanings he couldn't deny.

he got back to work, bails of hay every day filled his life with the scent of feilds and farming, a distraction from what his mind made up for him to make up his mind about.

his friends and coworkers would ask him what kept him silent in the feilds, but his reply would always be a casual montage of the weather they were having and the previous weekend that determined his ability to rise early for the job. he would make up stories in his mind, prior to work, that he would so eagerly share with those around him, not only to make his mind feel more at ease about what he may never inherit, but to make the minds around him more comfortable with his silence. either way, arthur was living a white lie and delivering it swiftly.

____

she woke up to footsteps,
just outside her door,
she delivered herself quickly
across the dark wood floor,
he footsteps were little,
her breath quick to breathe,
her pressed body to the door,
her questions running free
in her mind all the time,
wondering who was there,
would they knock and would she answer?
the late hour was her care.
at this time would she determine
if an appropriate response,
would be appropriate to show
the face against the blocks
of bricks outside her doorway?
she shuddered at the thought
of meeting face to face a man
she wish she would have not.
her hopes for someone charming
thinking of her at this hour
were incredibly and utterly
unrealistic in her power,
of being such a lovley creature
who should sleep and dream
of what perhaps might come
awake her from the deep
and dark of all her dreaming
and whisper at her door
for her to answer quickly,
and listen to her core.
the feelings in her bones
told her how to answer him,
but the message in her brain
told her not to wear it thin.
she could wait and wonder
of the thunder that would come,
and question every aspect,
for what to come could be the one
to keep her from her projects.

_____

the feeling shared and unknown
no answer ever set in stone.

____

on his venture home at night,
he whispered to himself
of things that can't be seen
in the future all he wished
was for her and him to be.
but with this wish it's fair
to say that all he can expect
is all he knows in present day
will come to pose a threat
on relations that he had in hopes,
and things he fears won't come.
the threat in position comes
to him like pits conclude a plum.
but how would these thoughts
ever make the sense of reason believed right?
how could he dream of her awake,
while he lay asleep at night,
if contact never touched down,
or he ever tried to talk
to the undetermined,
underestimated lover on his block,
he would be without words,
only photos in his mind
of how he wished he played this out,
savvy and defined.
her traits or name remain unknown,
but her face was just enough.
her looks could tell a thousand stories
of how he'd be so tough
for her when she needed him
to save her in the end
and how he would treat her
for years around the bend
he knew he had to make a move,
an impact on her mind,
a fingerprint on the soft shell
of her young and flawless time.

_____

she went back to bed, with needle and thread she sat awake sewing seams into cluttered shapes. sense couldn't make sense of it. she wished she had just opened the door. she also wished that the face on the other side was a familiar one. a familiar one to her dreams. a familiar one to her heart's desire. she ignored to common thought that the footsteps could have been a common person unexpectedly intruding in the night, not one of love to come or one of an already common sight. her dreams enchanted her to think of the man she deared the most the closest to her heart, the hero that she chose.

and all along, it was him.

____

days and nights flew by and lights could blind the way
that the boy and girl took to pass eachother every day.

but one day in particular, she came when he had went,
but the forgetting something miniscule, she returned.

standing in the alleyway,
adjacent to the door,
he followed her with hollow eyes,
as her eyes glued to the floor
avoided him with every inch
of step she could accept
she turned inside the building,
heart gushing with each beat.
her face filled with blood,
holding back the smile in her cheeks,
she gathered her forgotten item.
turning back to face the door,
nolonger able to glance at the floor.
stones stirred her attention
up towards his face.
locked eyes met and prizes won.
the two had finally met.

____

growth of fondness, fond of the growth, they stayed together for days on end, never forgetting the simple thought they shared. but as time went on, the attraction they established, undetermined ran it's course, but wasn't enough to fill the cups they bargained for. their assumptions at first sight had led them to believe that love comes easy and attraction is all that love does need, but wrong in their thoughts and wrong with their motives the laces they laced up had come undone. love wasn't much compared to attraction, the chase and the interest had lead them to a fraction of the cost. of what was believed to be.

____

trial and error, the fraction was just a fraction.
and the full meal deal was just unrealistic.

the fright to meet eachother in the long run from point one was just too scary, the hype that led them to this point sugar coated what could have possibly become. unrealistic in their ways, dramatic romance, back in the day, they came to realize.
